What is Lishi?
If you are serious about your health and are looking for an invigorating and powerful exercise class to join, then Lishi may be perfect for you. Lishi (pronounced ‘Lee- shur”) is a little known Daoist martial arts system which hails from North Eastern China. It includes elements of tai chi, kung fu, wushu, yoga, and dance. You can see what Wikipedia says about Lishi tai chi and kung fu by clicking here.
The art of Lishi is based around strengthening and learning to use your chi (qi) energy, and in classes we spend an hour working on internal health (breathing exercises, tai chi and soft movements to benefit your wellbeing). This is followed by another hour spent working on improving our external health (learning physical skills allowing you to protect yourself with minimal contact; here, gentle yet strong self defence is learnt, but Lishi does not involve ‘fighting’).
Examples of Lishi
If you’ve watched films such as Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; then you will have seen Wu Shu kung fu in action - this is just part of what we learn in Lishi classes. In full, Lishi includes aspects of tai chi, kung fu, yoga, Chinese dance, general fitness training, meditation, breathing exercises and wu shu.
Key Benefits to Lishi

Lishi is best suited to people who class themselves as:
- motivated
- dedicated
- interested in being their best (in terms of health, fitness, and lifestyle)
- wanting to learn a unique life-changing system of proven exercise, rather than a more mainstream martial art
